Description | Annular base, tapering neck with flaring rim; two vertical loop handles on upper body. red. with a face on neck; incised lines and punctuate rows around base. 4 peanuts in relief. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, tapered neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a ring base/foot base. The vessel has a modeled face on the neck with ears, eyes, nose, and mouth., There are four raised "peanuts" on the front of the body. The shoulder is decorated with incised lines and punctate dots in concentric circles around the neck. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange and buff in color. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1920." |
