Description

Oval bottle necked with swollen base of neck modeled to birds head, bill in full relief; wings and tail in low relief on body of vessel. One vertical loop handle shoulder to neck, dark colored bottle

Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a lentoid body, effigy-zoomorphic neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. The bottom part of the neck is modeled with a bird head with a beak extending from the neck to the body. Modeled in low relief on the shoulder are the bird wings and tail. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in a reducing atmosphere as the surface is black and the interior is gray in color. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "3107."
