Description | Sommerville: Agate - Septimus Severus, 23rd Emperor of Rome. Greek and Roman cameos, Case H. Vermeule: Mottled Agate in several layers. Cameo. (Unmounted). Laureate, draped cuirassed bust of Roman Emperor facing left. Sommerville indentifies him as Septimus Severus, but the features are rather those of the emperor Lucius Verus (161-169 A.D.) Italian work of the XVIth or earlier XVIIth. |
