Sommerville: Sardonyx. Augustus and Livia, the emperor caricatured as a faun. Notice the ear and hair. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case C.

Vermeule: Sardonyx. Cameo (unmounted). Jugate busts of a man and woman of the Julio-Claudian period, facing to left., the woman is veiled; the man has been given the pointed ears and vine wreath of a faun. Neo-classic.
