Description | Baby carrier (tembe dala), for carrying baby on hip. Made of coarse cotton (kafa galia), bought already spun then dyedwith local indigo. Blue stripes may be predyed fine cotton (kafa ote): this and cotton for embroidery and edging also bought in market in Sila. Lacks the usual subtle dark blue stripes. Made in 1982, Larodu hamlet. Black, with 8 narrow double blue stripes. Each end decorated with a band of zig-zag machine stitching and 3 machines-stitched 8-pointed stars. Lace edging. |
