Description

Plain. With a face. The face is produced by mold. Its general appearance indicated that producing faces by molds had its origin in this period.

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with a carinated body, tapered neck, flattened rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. There is a mold-formed applique face on the neck. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "3191.
