Description | Spherical body, bulging neck with flaring lip; two vertical loop handles on body. Face on neck decorated with lines and punctate pattern which appears also on neck of vessel. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, bulging neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a flat base. The vessel has a modeled face on the neck with eyes, nose, ears, and mouth. There is a geometric design on the neck in incised lines and punctate dots. There are traces of a red slip/paint. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. There are striations from smoothing tool on the exterior. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base. No other numbers are visible on the object. |
