Description

Marble head of Aphrodite. Part of a figure of a very small scale carved in the round. Wavy hair, parted in the middle. An incised line to indicate a ribbon encircling the head and holding the hair in place. Above the nape of the neck a bun. At front, above the ribbon, the hair is pulled up to form a broad puff. Face abraded except for left cheek and right eye. Fine grained, somewhat crystalline white marble, wheathered.
