Description

Bucchero ware. Two small handles. One large handle. Animals in relief. molded, stamped and tooled. Ovoid body, wide cylindrical neck, wide flaring foot. Two horizontal handles, one grooved vertical strap handle. Grooved rim with releif studs, a crude human head above the strap handle, two palmette rondels, one on either side of head attachment. Neck grooved with incised x's and vertical lines. molded tongues and grooved lines on shoulder. Four unevenly spaced pegasoi facing left on body. Fabric: dark grey core, fine-grained with flecks of mica. Rough gray surface with small black patches. Condition: worn. Surface deteriorated. Restored with brown substance on shoulder and main frieze; plaster and black paint used on lower body. Foot lined with white plaster. Some chipping. Technique: shoulder section thrown in jigger on wheel. Pegasoi stamped.
