Description | Terracotta cart. Body of cart rectangular, long sides turned up. Two small pointed projections at back. Roughly triangular projection at front pierced horizontally for insertion of pole and surmounted by large flat pellet. On underside at center of each long side is a small vertical member pierced horizontally to support axle. One wheel preserved, the other restored in plaster. Decoration in matte black (manganese glaze?) and red: lengthwise lines on floor of cart; curved lines at front end of floor; red on pellet; red triangles with black borders on exterior of upturned sides; black and red circular bands on exterior of wheel. Hand-made. Coarse buff clay. |
