Description | The sword guard is modelled in the style of curved, overlapping stalks of rice. Sections of the sword guard show evidence that they were once gilt. The guard is signed, "Masakata of the Bushu-Ito school," (武州住正方). Masakata was the 3rd generation head of the Bushu-Ito school based in Edo (Tokyo) and died in 1774 CE.Rusted blade. Black braided handle with white bubbly substance beneath. Sheath is black lacquered. |
