Description

Round bottom, incurved rim. Painted in red and black on white ground. Stylized birds

Wide mouthed vessel with a globular body, no neck/collar, rounded rim, no handles, and a rounded base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is painted with three bands of geometric design in white, black, and red. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. Evidence of usewear includes residue on the interior. There is red staining at the interior of the pot. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1578."
