| Description | Pottery image of woman, standing, with right hand resting on diaphragm, the other hand grasping the left breast. Short vertical slit in middle of abdomen. Face rather ape-like. Bulbous form of feet in region of toes gives effect of clumsy shoes. Bands of cicatrization on chest, back, encircling lower part of torso, and at sides of mouth; incused line down middle of forehead to root of nose. Hair apparently represented as shaved in narrow bands parallel to sagittal line. The pottery of this people is said to be sun-baked, (doubtful) and to be varnished with a mineral substance (? plumbago) |
