Description | A bow made of bamboo (Mai Phai Ban-ไม้ไผ่บ้าน) with a rope made of Po Pan (ปอป่าน). The pellet holder is made of bamboo and rattan. The handle is made of mai fak (ไม้ฟาก), a particular type of wood. These pellet bows went out of use around the 1930's. This example was made by an older man Mr. Buali (บัวลี) who used them in his youth. It is used to shoot rabbits and birds, control cows and water buffalo, and scare off robbers. The owner says it is strong enough to break teeth. |
