Description | Body beveled, neck flaring; Engraved. A face on neck decorated with punctate rows below coffee bead eyes. Line and punctate decoration on neck. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an carinated body, flaring neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a rounded base. The vessel has a brown/orange slip and has the modeled features of a face added to the neck. The face is also decorated with punctate dots. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is gray and buff in color. There is a porous dark gray area on the rim that may indicate over firing. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "309." |
