Description

Incasic fire pot with serpents in relief and bosses on shoulder, two vertical loop handles on shoulder

Cooking pot (olla) with a globular body, bulging collar, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a rounded base. The vessel has two raised snakes around the shoulder and numerous hemispherical protrusions on the body pushed out from the interior. The vessel is red slipped with white painted lines around the handles. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior and a scraped finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Evidence of usewear includes soot on the exterior and residue on the interior. There is a black sooty material at the interior as well as exterior. The catalogue number is written in black ink on the interior of neck. Black ink on the interior of neck reads: "2680."
