Description

Sommerville: Sardonyx. Aesculapius, "the blameless physician," son of Apollo and Coronis; also, the god of the medical art. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case S.

Vermeule: Sardonyx. Cameo. (Unmounted). Aesculapius standing to right, holding serpent staff at his right side. Cameo copies a IVth later statuary type which was much copied by the Romans. Broken into 2 pieces.
