Description | Oval hide shield, hairy side forms obverse. This type of shield is evidently characteristic of the region from Mt. Elgon to Kavirondo Bay, which tends to confirm the attribution to the Jaluo. The grip is formed by forcing the hide away from the middle of the stretcher by means of two wooden "bridges" secured by thongs. One end of the shield has a large diagonal patch. Shape of shield and form of boss resemble these features of the Masai shields. Several references available from card's description. |
