Description | Late 19th, early 20th century. Red and white striped, warp faced, striped cotton. Bird motif, front and back. Geometrical shoulder bands brocaded in red and purple cotton. Joined with randas and neck embroidered in multicolored silk. As per Sigrid Meier, "Warp: 56 epi, 4 ply, Z twist, white and red cotton. Weft: 15 ppi, 4 singles, Z twist, white cotton. Warp faced plain-weave. Supplemental weft: 2 faced, 2 panels, 4 selvedges each. Made on backstrap loom." |
