Description

Three dimensional puppet with wooden torso, wooden head, wooden arms, articulated at shoulder and elbows, cotton skirt from waist down. Puppet is held and operated by a wooden stick which passes through a hole in the torso and into the base of the head and by sticks attached to the hands. Face white, rest of sking gold. Narrow eyes straight nose, black hair curling to top of head, with gold ear ornaments. Head bowed. Three rhinestone set in brow. Red bracelets, wrists flexed. Long black velvet chest cover with red and gold rickrack, V's of silver thread down front, red fringe at bottom. Wide pink sash with broad light band. Batik skirt; blue with white dots, pink border with meandering design of leaves and flowers at hem. Fabric typical of coastal java.
