Description | Sommerville: Pale Sardonyx. Sophocles, the Greek dramatist. Gold and Bronze Rings - Cameos, Case PPP. Vermeule: Pale Sardonyx. Cameo. (Modern gold ring setting) Bust of a man in high relief, he faces slightly left. Sommerville identifies the subject as "Sophocles the Greek dramatist," but the features seem to be those of a Roman portrait bust of the mid-II A.D. Later XVIIIth or XIXth century. |
