Description | Large rim sherd from a deep pot (深鉢). Rim curves up into fanciful projection with side flanges and exterior knob with insiced markings. Orange burnished area on top interior of projection. Thicker at edge of rim. Exterior with bands of decoration including cord marked areas, burnished areas and applied raised lines which are incised. Jomon style. Interior is smooth. Orange in color. The elaborate rim projections and surface decoration are reminiscent of the fanciful vessels of the Middle Jomon Period. |
