Description | Glazed light, reddish brown clay. Animal (dog) is 4-legged with short, upturned tail. Lying on stomach, forelegs bent and extended forward, supporting on ear of corn (?) which the animal nibbles on. Ear of corn has tiny squares carved into its upper surface-presumably the kernels. The animal has long snout with well-defined nose on end. There is a design, extending in a "V" pattern from the end of the snout to the ears, around the ears to the very top of the head, and then joining together in the middle. The eyes are carved into the clay. Body of animal is broad. Spout of the vessel is on the animal's left side, midway between the legs. There is a design on each side of the back, carved into the clay. THere are five lumps running down the animal's back, from the neck to the tail. |
