Description | Black lacquer sheath with tip/cap piece missing. Gilt work on handle which is also decorated with green braided ribbon. Beneath the hilt, the tang is inscribed on one side with a signature. The maker's signature reads, "Kanetane of Echizen province," (越前住兼植). Kanetane is likely the 2nd generation swordsmith from the Echizen-Seki school from the early Edo period. |
