Description | Rim-sherd from a pyxis (?), with the edge of a handle; edge of rim fitted for a lid. Fine, pink (5YR 7/3) clay with a redder core, covered with black paint, with decoration in added white (5YR 8/1) paint. Dark painted on both interior and exterior. Added white: band below rim. The vertical wall, diameter of the rim, and fitting for the lid suggest that this is a pyxis sherd. Bibliography: Silverman 1978 a: 35, no. 66, and pl. 2b, no. 1. |
