Description | [Along with MS4637.99C and MS4123, sherd joins with MS4123] Double vase consisting of two vessels joined at the body. The first vessel: jug with a strainer set into the mouth; flaring rim with no spout; ridge at the juncture of neck and shoulder. The second vessel: vessel with a flat rim; nearly straight neck; ridge at the juncture of neck and shoulder. The two vessels are joined at the widest part of the body, with their interiors connected by an opening; a handle with an oval section connects the two rims. Fine, very pale brown (10YR 7/3) clay with decoration in reddish brown (5YR 7/3) to black paint, added red (2.5YR 5/8) paint, and added white (N 8/) paint. Wiped with water. First vessel: strainer painted; band on rim; conglomerate pattern on shoulder, between bands; bands on body. Second vessel: rim and neck painted; conglomerate pattern on shoulder, between bands. Added red; band on neck of first vessel. Added white, first vessel: line on strainer; band on rim; dots on exterior of rim; band on neck; wavy lines on band on upper shoulder; circles and tiny dots on large dark circles of conglomerate pattern; dot band bounded by thin bands on rim and neck; short vertical lines between bands on upper shoulder ; circles and dots on large dark circles of conglomerate pattern. Upper parts preserved. This is one of the finest double vases known.
