Description | Dark buff ware; annular base decorated wth incised diagonal lines; body thickened on outside with hollow coil, partly broken away; on the coil are life forms in full or in high relief, flat horizontal bosses, and punctated border at top of coil; neck curves slightly outward; thickened on outside of rim by fillet; band of spiral decoration on neck in low relief; below relief band is a horizontal flange with incised herring bone pattern. (Probably the incised decoration on the pedestal was herring bone also, but part is broken off and restored in plaster). Diam. of rim, 13.5 cm.; about 27 cm. across between full reliefs; H. 14.5 cm. |
