Description

Round sun hat with slight peak woven of 3 colors of grass fiber in a swriling design; rim of bent wood and covered with braided and woven grasses which secure it to the body of the hat; a headband of braided and open weave grasses is secured to interior with red cotton threads; the underside of the brim is decorated with a series of coiled grass strips around which has been wrapped cotton threads in alternating bands of red, yellow and white. Chin strap missing; in good condition; some surface dirt; some fiber missing. Exhibited at the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition, St. Louis 1904.
