Description | Sommerville: Antique paste intaglio, color rich sard. Hercules in repose. Superb patina and iridescence. Antique Pastes, Case YYY. Vermeule: Paste, imitating sard or carnelian. Cable border in the tradition of Etruscan scarabs. Male figure, perhaps Herakles, kneeling to left. He appears to be represented as the infant about to strangle the serpents. Italo-Etruscan. |
