Description | Female mask. Wood, painted white, with red smiling mouth, gold teeth, almond shaped slanting eyes, arched gold eyebrows, black hair curling down sides of face. Prominent pointed nose. Holes beneath the eyes and for nostrils. Gold crown with multiple points, gold line across each cheek from hairline to chin. Piece of hide projecting from the mouth on the inside, for (non-speaking) dancer to keep mask in place. Noblewoman or queen. Javanese. |
