Description | Woman's belt made of 24 cords. All but the 11th and 12th are 3-ply, alternating from a "Z" to and "s" twist creating a herringbone effect. Cords 11 and 12 are two colors, (brown and natural) and are 2-ply. These cords are held in place by sewing thread which travels through the middle of the cord in an "s". Additional support is given by small dark woven bands that hold the cords in place at both ends and the middle. At the middle and the ends, reeds are sewn holding the cords flat, probably to aid in the construction. Fringe at both sides is 10 1/2in (27cm). (Lake Mantumba district). |
