Description | Flattened base. Globular body, nearly cylindrical neck with everted lip. Two vertical loop handles on body. Painted with fishes. Painted red-white-black. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, flaring neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle on the body, and a flat base. No molded/modeled additions. the vessel may have originally had two handles as there is an area where it looks like a handle broke off, but the area where the other handle would go is covered in slip. The vessel is slipped and painted white, red, maroon, purple, and black. There is a multi-banded geometric design painted around the body and neck. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1825." |
