Description | Depressed body with pointed bottom; short wide neck with everted lip; two vertical loop handles on body. Large. With a face and painted fishes on body. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an oblong body, effigy-anthropomorphic neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a flat base. The vessel is painted with a design of fish? in red and white. The neck has a modeled/molded face with ears, eyes, nose, and mouth, painted red. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere with localized reduction as the ceramic paste is orange and gray in color. Fireclouding is present on the base and body. There are wide lines in the surface from smoothing. Evidence of usewear includes surface attrition on the bottom/base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. No other numbers are visible on the object. |
