Description | Openwork hammock of raphia cord with a pierced bar at each end for spreading the hammock. Swung from the rafters of the veranda by ropes attached to the bars, it is the master's "easy chair" [so called in pidgin English]. Pel = hammock, letual = raphia; le is the article. The cords are dyed black [dark brown] and red--brown. Decorated with tassels. |
