Description | Fragment of lip and neck of "?amphora". Or an oinochoe? (GRE) Band of glaze just inside lip; interior otherwise unglazed. Band of glaze covers exterior of lip and upper part of neck. Outurned lip, separated from neck by a low ridge. On neck, within a panel formed by a frame of glazed lines, is a large bird facing right, in profile. The body is in solid glaze but the neck, head and outstretched wing are in outline with hatched lines on the neck and wing. Very hard, rather thin clay; glaze from black to brown. Identification by Nicolas Coldstream on visit 8 Apr 82. |
