Description | Wooden Katsina doll carved from one piece of wood. The face is painted white with plain features. A carved plume of feathers sits atop the head. A white, sleeved garment is worn around the torso and a painted kilt around the waist. A gourd for holding water is carried in one hand. This figure is the Chief or Father of all Katsinam, Eototo, who contributes to all ceremonies. Made by William Koots. (Colton, H. 1959 #7, Wright, B., 1973 #18) |
