Description | One vertical loop handle, shoulder to neck, black bottle with face on neck, arms and legs indicated in low relief Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with an ovate body, cylindrical neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. Molded head with eyes, eyebrows, nose, and ears on the neck. There is a modeled arms and legs on the body. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in a reducing atmosphere as the surface is black and the interior is gray in color. Evidence of usewear includes scratches on the exterior and surface attrition on bottom/base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "3101." |
