Description | An oval-shaped, woven, folding hat (amigasa). This straw hat is circle or radial woven, coated with a brown material, then covered with black lacquer. The lacquer and underlying material are both thin enough to show the individual strands of straw that make up the structure of the hat. A large crest is painted in gold, edged with red on either side of the hat, possibly that of a branch of the Takeda clan. The crest is a simple design of a flower in a wide diamond shape (hanabishi design) with a cross in the center. An additional design is painted on the top, along the folding ridge. This second design is of a cross shape made of two large diamonds outlined in gold paint, and two small diamonds filled in with gold paint. |
