Description | White plain weave cotton huipil. Heavily brocaded in navy blue, red, yellow, aqua and magenta silk and cotton thread. Large, stylized animal forms in navy cotton. Geometric forms used as filler in design. One selvedge has a red stripe and the other has a blue and red stripe. Red end cords. As per Sigrid Meier, "Warp: 40 epi, three singles, Z twist, white cotton. Weft: 26 ppi, three singles, Z twist, white cotton. Warp is predominantly plain weave. Supplementary weft is single faced and two faced. One panel, four selvedges. Woven on a backstrap loom." |
