Description

Used in Good Friday ceremonies in Orthodox church. One width of thin, loosely woven white cotton, with selvage on sides. Printed with black: angel heads, cross, seal of a church, skull and cross bones and instruments of the Passion, inscription in Slovak: "The pious Joseph took from the cross thy purest body and with this clean shroud and incense(s) clothed it." Russian word for this particular shroud: transliteration plasht'nitsa plasht' -sheet.
