Description

Red cotton with black borders and two bands running lengthwise. Additional designs doubly-woven on one side of belt in purple, yellow, blue, green, white, orange, and pink. Designs are geometric: ovals, zigzags and arrow motifs. Designs run width-wise across belt and are separated from each other by arrows with multicolored bands. Belt ends are fringed. Made in Cantel Aldeas for Zunil about 1973.

As per Sigrid Meier, "Warp: 60 epi, two ply, red and black cotton. Weft: 16 ppi, multistrand, Z twist, red cotton. Warp faced plain weave. Supplementary weft is single faced. Woven on a backstrap loom."
