Description | Conical bowl. Coiled construction, carved and painted on the outside. Patterns are red, yellow, and white, outlined in burnished black. Inside is dark terracotta with extensive smudged areas from firing. An eating bowl, for individual portions of sago pudding. Supported by a woven fiber ring when in use.
Patterns include a four-pointed star-shaped motif in the center and eight human faces around the sides, alternating orientation. The faces have round eyes, “anchor” noses, and curved mouths. Outlines of faces and central star are textured with punctate markings. Borders of zigzags and punctate arrows around the rim. |
