Description | Flat conical bowl. Coiled construction, carved and painted. Patterns are red and white, outlined in burnished black. Inside is dark terracotta with smudged areas from firing. An eating bowl, for individual portions of sago pudding. Supported by a woven fiber ring when in use. Four large heart-shaped faces, alternating orientation. Oval eyes and noses, large bow-shaped mouths. Spaces between faces (along the rim) and areas between facial features filled with concentric crescents. Outlines and small areas in the designs are textured with punctate impressions. Large chip out of rim, painted over. |
