Sago Eating Bowl

Deep conical bowl. Coiled construction, carved and painted. Patterns are red, yellow, and white, outlined in burnished black. Inside is mostly black. An eating bowl, for individual portions of sago pudding. Supported by a woven fiber ring when in use.

Two teardrop shaped faces, on opposite sides of the bowl. Round eyes, “anchor” noses, smiling mouths. Between the faces, dividing the bowl in half, is a chain of 17 diamonds. Another band of diamonds forms a border around the rim. The space between the faces (most of the surface) is filled with looping lines of graduated size, each loop enclosing an oval. The faces and ovals are textured with punctate dots. Design is very similar to that of 2013-20-17. Long V-shaped crack runs from rim up across one of the faces.
