Sago Eating Bowl

Conical bowl. Coiled construction, carved and painted. Patterns are terracotta outlined in polished black. Inside is terracotta and black (painted?) with what look like white fingerprints. An eating bowl, for individual portions of sago pudding. Supported by a woven fiber ring when in use.

Design that can be interpreted as eight faces with large spiral eyes and straight noses, four around the middle of the bowl alternating with four smaller ones near the rim (opposite orientation). In the center is a complicated oval figure from which four short 2-link chains run down to the small faces. Around the rim, under the large faces and between the small faces, are pairs of spirals. Small punctate texturing in all linear elements.
