Description | Conical bowl. Coiled construction, carved and painted. Patterns are red, yellow, and white, outlined in burnished black. Inside is light terracotta with small smudged areas from firing and what look like many black fingerprints. An eating bowl, for individual portions of sago pudding. Supported by a woven fiber ring when in use. Four heart-shaped faces, two connected across the center by a 3-link chain and two nearer the rim (opposite orientation). Round eyes, largeg bow mouths. As in the case of 2013-20-26, the halves of the heart-shaped faces resemble birds’ heads in profile. The faces near the rim are flanked by connected spirals. In the center are two heart shapes resembling playing card spades. Faces and most linear elements are textured with punctate impressions. |
