Sago Eating Bowl

Conical bowl. Coiled construction, carved and painted. Patterns are pale red, buff and white, outlined in burnished black. Inside dark terracotta/black with a couple of white fingerprints at rim. An eating bowl, for individual portions of sago pudding. Supported by a woven fiber ring when in use.

Design is a five-lobed figure, outlined four times, with a ringed circle in the center. The spaces between the lobes, near the rim, are filled with pointed ellipses flanked by concentric crescents. The centers of the lobes, and the five pointed ellipses, are plain burnished black. Around the rim is a band of small horizontal ellipses and concentric crescents.
