Description | Tall pot with rounded bottom, narrow mouth and flaring rim. Terracotta with smudged areas from firing. Human face molded in relief on one side of the neck: round eyes, broad nose, round open nostrils. Face has a scalloped raised rim, with small holes punched through the points (for fiber tassels). Three molded crescents below. Black pigment in the crescents and the face. White designs under the rim over the eyes, lines of chevrons on the temples. Used to store smoked sago. |
