Description

Round, shallow lid with protruding knob in center for handle. Underside terracotta with small smudged area from firing. The number 46 in center. 5 cm. crack running in from rim. Top painted black with designs in white and red. On the handle a white cross; around the handle an area defined by a raised border within which are four five-and-six petalled flowers, surrounded by zones of red and white dots. Around the circumference bands of white zigzags and triangles. The black pigment comes off easily. Since in Aibom village sago storage pots were usually covered with eating bowls, this knobbed lid may have been made elsewhere.
