Description | Shawl (ragidup). Three loom widths. Two plain dark blue/purple side panels, large central panel with five lengthwise/longitudinal lines of white ikat patterning and two white panels with geometric designs in supplementary weft. Fringed. The most important kind of Toba Batak ceremonial cloth: presented to a woman by her parents when she is pregnant with her first child, and a gift to the mother of the groom from the father of the bride. Also used as a shroud. |
